First and Wildest: The Gila Wilderness at 100 (Torrey House Press, edited by Elizabeth Hightower Allen) is out. This anthology celebrates one of the largest wilderness areas in the U.S., a place of stunning natural beauty that I happen to call home (well, very close to home).

According to Foreword Reviews, the anthology “melds lush nature writing with thought-provoking calls for alternative environmental policies.” Its theme, besides the sheer scale and gorgeousness of the Gila, is environmental conservation.
My piece (“Rambling”) sits next to the work of a number of writers I’ve admired for years and a few I’m grateful to call friends. The contributors include Sharman Apt Russell, Phil Connors, Joy Harjo, Michael Berman, Laura Paskus, Beto O’Rourke, and Eve West Bessier, among others.
Helping to promote the book is a group called Wild Earth Guardians. They are environmental advocates who created this superb trailer for the book: https://vimeo.com/700995043/7490551c92. Enjoy!
